Lambeth Teacher with Lambeth NUT

Wyvil school goes 'Foundation'

Wyvil is a vital part of the community in the Vauxhall area. It serves that community in that it has a representative intake including 50% free school meals as well as a large black student cohort and also special needs. A large black presence is evident on the teaching force.

Unfortunately, by a majority vote of governors, it elected to become a Foundation school, despite concerns being raised by both our union and colleagues from NASUWT.

We are concerned that there is a tendency to select in Foundation schools that shows taht they have 20% fewer youngsters with free school meals than community schools.

We do not envisiage any sgh=hoirt term drastic changes, but we shaall continue to monitor the sitauation in terms of both admission, but also staff relations (eg contracts, entitlements) as things progress.

We wish the school well.
